Sofia's Villa is the redesign of an old villa located in a quiet, residential neighborhood in London. The family purchased this home after the birth of their young daughter, Sofia, with the dream that it would be the space where she spends all her childhood and teenage years. Their primary goal was for this house to become their children's first and only "family home"—a place filled with memories of growth and life.

The original building, with its classic layout and traditional structure, needed to be reimagined for this young, modern family whose lifestyle required flexibility, comfort, and functional zoning.

🎯 Key Client Needs

The mother of the family works remotely as a freelancer and needed a home office directly adjacent to the toddler’s room—allowing constant visual connection while maintaining a productive work environment.
At the same time, the family’s teenage child required a fully independent bedroom, designed specifically for study, privacy, and personal growth.

Additional priorities included:

  • A full reconfiguration of the existing floor plan to improve flow and daylight
  • Modernizing finishes while maintaining the building’s original character
  • Creating a home that reflects the family’s values: togetherness, creativity, and comfort

🧩 Design Approach

The design approach blends contemporary functionality with the architectural heritage of London homes. The updated floor plan focuses on:

  • Enhancing connectivity between spaces
  • Introducing wider visual openings toward the yard
  • Creating multifunctional rooms that evolve with the family’s needs

The toddler’s room was designed in the spirit of Scandinavian-inspired home nurseries, using a soft neutral palette, natural wood textures, and modular play elements.
The adjacent home office carries the same design language, shaped to balance professional requirements with a warm, family-oriented atmosphere.

🌿 Outdoor & Yard Design

With 400 sqm of exterior space, the redesign prioritizes:

  • Stronger visual links between interior spaces and the garden
  • Walking paths and interactive green pockets
  • Native London plant species
  • Child-friendly outdoor play zones

The objective was to create a living environment that encourages daily family interaction with nature.

🧱 Material & Furniture Selection

TTL handled the full selection of materials and furnishing, opting for a palette of:

  • Natural woods
  • Textured fabrics
  • Soft, warm color tones
  • Layered lighting for comfort and flexibility

The outcome is a calm, harmonious, and family-centered atmosphere.

🎯 TTL’s Role

TTL was responsible for the plan redesign, design development, modeling, rendering, and material/furniture curation.
This project highlights the studio’s capabilities in revitalizing older structures and transforming them into contemporary, emotionally resonant homes tailored to the unique identity and lifestyle of their inhabitants.
